Using the proper techniques to cleanse your skin each day plays a huge role in your youthful glow. There are many factors that can affect your natural barrier, protecting your skin from bacteria’s and your skin’s natural pH balance.
Choose a cleanser right for your skin
Be aware of what skin type you have. Do you have oily skin? Dry skin? Combination skin? This is huge in choosing the right cleanser.
Another important factor is pH levels.
A pH level of a product can have an affect on the skin. Our skin’s natural pH is around 5.5, which is slightly acidic.
When it gets too alkaline (higher pH) the skin gets too dry and sensitive and this is where eczema comes in to play if your skin remains alkaline for too long.
When it’s too acidic (lower pH) this plays into acne issues.
Parabens & Sulfates
Be aware, also, of the ingredients in the cleanser of your choosing. Irritating ingredients such as parabens and & sulfates. Sulfates cause dryness and irritation. A great cleanser to keep on hand is one with ingredients such as rose water or aloe vera or other antioxidant vitamins.
Try to use lukewarm water temperatures when washing and rinsing your face. If your water is too hot it can have direct affects on the moisture barrier and strip your protective oils. Also be sure to rinse all traces of your cleanser away. When soapy residue is left behind, it builds up on the surface of your skin, and in turn clogs your pores and causes breakouts. You will also realize your skin will feel dry, irritated, and tight.
Using a moisturizer directly after, while your face is still damp, is crucial. When you wait until your face is already dry, your skin doesn’t absorb the moisture and you’ll notice it may feel a little tacky or oily.
